Continuing to provide support for ReCAST BR Coalition member organizations under unprecedented circumstances related to the global pandemic of COVID-19, the SAMHSA -funded group of Louisiana mental health and community organizers held its first all-online meeting today. Dozens of funded and affiliated nonprofit organizations checked in on the call and shared experiences of the challenges and necessity of providing service under these trying circumstances. Featured speaker Pamela Weems, LCSW, of member organization Family Service of Greater Baton Rouge , provided timely information on the nature of grief and the many ways in which the current crisis affects us all. Sgt. Elvin Howard receives recognition by Chuck Wiley Foundation This past October 3, 2019, Sgt. Elvin Howard, Jr. was honored by the Chuck Wiley Foundation and presented with a  99 Wayz 2 Win  award for his community service work with Baton Rouge youth.  The event was held at the F.G. Clark Activity Center on the campus of Southern University and A&M College.  Sergeant Elvin Howard Jr. is a 21-year veteran of the Baton Rouge Police Department.  During his tenure with the Baton Rouge Police Department Sgt. Howard worked ten years in the Homicide Division, one year on a gang task force, and three years on the ATF Task Force.  Sgt. Howard is currently assigned to the Baton Rouge Police Department’s Community Services Division as the ReCAST Coordinator.
