AKCCL Highlights #1 CTE Program Student: Christina Dickerson

Christina Dickerson - Our # 1 Student

Christina Dickerson, a young mother of three year-old twin girls and another two year old daughter is currently the top welding student in our program. Christina has endured homelessness and unemployment as a single mother this summer, but through it all, only missed two days of class while at times having to bring her girl to school with her.  Despite living out of a motel she is determined to leave a legacy for her girls.  Come out and help us celebrate Christina Dickerson and "Women In Welding". We invite individuals to come out and be a blessing to this family. Our hope is to get her into stable housing, provide food, and clothing for her and her girls.

SAMHSA Video Challenge

Since joining the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention last year, I have been inspired by the amazing work our prevention partners are doing to support our young people during this challenging time. What has really stood out to me is not just your continued work and dedication, but the amazing work and dedication of the young people in your programs who have not just stood by during the pandemic, but sought out leadership roles within prevention programs, to bring their unique perspectives, skills and creative ideas to the work of prevention. This year during National Prevention Week (NPW), May 9–15, 2021, SAMHSA wants to highlight the amazing work of these young leaders by asking them to record a short video highlighting their work and motivation to take leadership roles in prevention programs.  See flyer for details.
