BR Mayor’s Healthy City Initiative (MHCI) Opens Re-Charge Stations

We trust that everyone is well following the impact of Hurricane Ida.  Here are city-parish services that may prove helpful to you and your clients, family members, etc.  You may also want to volunteer to help this important cause.

Today, Mayor Broome will be standing up Community Recharge Stations. We will be standing these up at community centers as they regain power. Today, we have launched the Community Recharge Station at the MLK Community Center and Leo S. Butler Community Center form 12pm-6pm. We will be providing phone charging stations, Free Wi-Fi, prepared meals and water (while supplies last). We will expand to more community centers as power restored is restored.

We are looking for volunteers. There will be 4 hour shifts beginning today, September 1st starting at 11:00am until 7:00pm and September 2-4 from 7:00 am 7:00 pm. To sign up for a shift, please fill out this form:

Additionally, we have attached the meeting notes from today. As we mentioned on the call here are our next steps:

·       Resource document: Here is an electronic survey that can be distributed to community members to learn what needs they have. Once someone fills out the form we will work on connecting them to the resources they need or a partner who can support them.

o   Many of you said you were distributing community surveys as well. If you can share with us your finding we can try to support getting the residents connected to the resources they need.

  • Donation/Volunteer Document: Here is an electronic survey that can be distributed to community members and organizations who are interested in donating money or resource as well as interested in volunteering their time. We will use this form to connect them to people and organizations that have needs.
  • Dropbox folder: The Mayors office and HealthyBR team will begin creating a dropbox file with relevant graphics containing accurate information to share with the public. We will share this link as soon as we can compile the resources and put them in the dropbox.
  • Centralized resource list: We have begun compiling a list of resources that are available and services that are open.  As each of you hear of resources please share them with us. We will share this list with you in the coming days.

As always if you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to any of the members of HealthyBR and the Mayor’s Office.
